Wage Growth outstripping Inflation

AAT, Tax, Bookkeeper...

The BBC News is reporting this morning that wage growth is finally outstripping inflation and that the jobless rate is now 4% nationwide, which is the lowest it has been in 40 years!  Job vacancies have risen by 14,000 to a record 833,000. I have to say that none of this will surprise anyone who has been trying to recruit recently. We have seen big jumps in finance salaries this year because of the shortages of good quality candidates. Two years ago, local companies could easily find ledger clerks for between £18,000 and £22,000. Increasingly they are having to pay £25,000. At the other end of the scale, a Financial Controller two years ago would have been available for £50,000. In recent months, we have placed people at this level at £60,000, £70,000 and £80,000. This is great news if you are thinking about job hunting and finding that extra money to pay ever increasing bills but not quite such good news for comapnies with stretched budgets.

What will happen to the booming jobs market next year after Brexit is anybody's guess so if you are thinking of changing job because you are unhappy in your current position, now is the time to do it. Traditionally, the autumn period in finance recruitment is our busiest time of the year so be brave and take the plunge!  Call me to discuss your options on 01223 300639 or email your CV to me at jeanette.r@cavillrobinson.co.uk
